Daniel Shansky

My father, Daniel Shansky (1920-1986) was a music teacher and role model to his thousands of children of Orchestral and Choral Music in the New York City school system. Over the course of his 25 year teaching career, he composed operettas, popular songs and serious orchestral pieces to be performed by his students.

He organized musical performances to benefit charities, most notably The March of Dimes during the Polio epidemic between 1949 and 1954. He radiated love and joy of music to everyone with whom he came into contact, especially the critically ill children he visited in various Brooklyn, N.Y. hospitals.

The years following his retirement were his busiest. He wrote over 20 short stories, two full length novels, an opera based on the life and trial of the Revolutionary War newspaper publisher, John Peter Zenger and the Cantata for Orchestra, Chorus and Soloists, based on the life of MOSES.

His stories, originally written on a Smith-Corona typewritter with three sheets of carbon paper, are being re-keyboarded by my favorite nephew, David Rubinstein so that they can be downloaded and read as PDF files.
